Hip hop I'm not...

So I took a hip hop class today and learned a couple of things. I thought I had rythym and could dance, I can not. I have never been really good at co-ordinated dance and this just re-iterates the fact, LOL. I am a free flowing type of girl. Getting my hands and feet to move correctly at the same time was a bit difficult. Turns out there's a lot of bouncing in hip hop dance, I skipped that part, lol, I just tried to move my feet in time. I was happy though that I made it through the whole class. I envisioned me just standing there huffing and puffing halfway through the class, LOL.

The second thing I learned was I need to drag my lazy ass back to classes, the workout I get in them is so much more intense then if I would have worked out for an hour myself. Once I woke up from my nap I had a half an hour before I needed to go to the class and I do admit, I was laying there thinking I'll just go to the gym later and do the elliptical but then I thought, I'll be dreading it for the next couple of hours so I might as well get up and go and I'm happy that I did. I am trying to get into the zone. My neighbor wants to work out tomorrow night, I told her no cancelling on me. If she cancels then I'm not making plans with her again because when she cancels I don't go.

Target did it to me again. I went in for a couple of items then it's like, oh, I forgot I need laundry detergent and oh wait, I need shampoo and next thing you know $50 has been spent. Damn that Target, if only I didn't love them and their prices so much, LOL. Apparently for the next couple of days there's no tax on clothes and school items or computers in the state of GA. I looked to find out if everything was tax free but such was not the case, bummer.

I saw this recipe on yahoo and thought I would share, I know Nancy loves salad-less salads. I'm not a big fan of tomatoes or bell peppers or mint so I would use other items but it looked like a light refreshing salad.

Middle Eastern Cucumber & Tomato Salad
(makes 4-6 servings)
4 cups peeled cucumbers, cut in 1/2-inch chunks

4 cups riped tomatoes, cut in 1/2-inch chunks

1 large red or green bell pepper, cut in 1/2-inch chunks

3 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

3 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped (optional)

1 cup crumbled or cubed feta cheese (optional)

1/2 cup pitted kalamata olives (optional)

2 scallions, cut in 1/4-inch slices (optional)

3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1) Chop the fresh vegetables as described above and place in a large salad bowl or glass bowl. Refrigerate until ready to serve so the salad will be nice and cold. If adding olives, feta, herbs, and/or green onion, sprinkle them evenly over the salad.
2) Mix the oil and lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a small bowl and set aside until ready to serve.
3) Pour the dressing over the vegetables, toss.
4) Taste for salt, pepper, quantity and balance of the dressing. Add more of the dressing ingredients if you like.

Girl my Anglo-Saxon-Puritian roots showed big time when I did a Hip Hop dance last week in my summer class. I signed up just for Jazz but they combined it w/Hip Hop--dang it!

I LOVED the Jazz part of the class but I felt pretty goofy trying to do the moves. Lucky for me the other Anglos looked and felt just as awkward.

I am about the class atmosphere b/c I need the accountability and comradery for exercising!

I wish you could do my Jazzercize classes with me--you can do those!
The routines are fun and serveral bring out my "inner stripper" with all the bump & grind! I just may buy a pole! snort!

PS SOOO proud of you for going to the gym! I don't want to be sweating and sore all by myself!

I have no rhythym whatsoever,I would've looked a complete fool,LOL.That's why you had such a hard time getting me on the floor at Cleo's barge,LOL.It's funny,too,b/c when I was a kid I took ballet, tap, and jazz dance classes for five years.Even have the trophy to prove it...somewhere.*G*

I hate the ellipitical with a passion. When I did go to the gym I could only do it for five mins,b/c I wanted to die after three,LOL.

See?!!?? What is it about that household stuff (shampoo, laundry soap, etc.) that it has to all run out at the same time, and it costs $50 whether you're buying for one person or three? Irritating! I will probably go to Target a couple times before the baby is born-I found a lot of cute baby stuff there for Brodie, and sometimes they have oodles of baby clothes on clearance.

I'm impressed as hell that you go to the gym and work out, rhythm or no rhythm. It makes me tired thinking about it...I should rest. LOL!
Thanks for the recipe, I'm going to try it this weekend.

I just got back from my Jazz/Hip Hop class and can tell you straight up I be WHITE BREAD!

There is this one move you are to throw your hands in the air and look mad and I look like I'm doing "stop in the name of love" but with both hands PLUS I keep grinning.

The other move I can't get are the Body Rolls--I can do Body Jiggles, Body Thrusts, have some body rolls but my body refuses to roll!

Emma can roll her belly! It really is cool and creepy to watch. I tried it and of course not a thing moved--not even a flinch!
God I feel so UN-Hip & Hop so I'm gonna have a BEER!

I can totally see you with jazz hands chick! I would love to take a stripper pole class, big surprise, I know, LOL. I've never done any kind of jazz class but I think dance classes are fun.

Bo, I thought I had rhythm, I was wrong, LOL. Bo, I think I may need to see those trophys *G*. The elliptical is a killer but it's so much easier then the treadmill on my knees so I suffer through. Target is a phenomenal store but dang, it does add up.

Brenda, I need to get my body in shape for the next time we skinny dip, LOL. Let me know how you like the recipe.

LMAO, you keep grinning, imagine that! Hmmm, I wonder where Emma gets it from? The only move I could do naturally in class was the what's up move, LOL. My belly is sore, we did abs yesterday too but I know I have a jelly roll, does that count?

LOL good on you honey. There is no way I would do a hip hop anything. Waaay to many jiggly bits to jiggle about. I tried a belly dancing class last year which was a HUGH laugh, but then I got sick and too lazy arsed to go back.
